Happy Birthday.

It's been a year. Today, at 9:52. I think? A couple of friends reminded me that it was today. A year ago today I gave birth to a little girl. I was a surrogate for two men. They might have been called friends once I think.

I'm not sure what to think, really. I'm not sad. I'm not overly happy. It's a fact that just is. That family is a year old now. I hope they're happy and healthy, and that she's starting to do one year old things. Maybe standing, or walking. Maybe making word-sounds.

It all seems so strange and distant. Another life. Perhaps something I read in a book somewhere. Oh, well. C'est la vie, yes?

Happy Birthday JAM.

  1. Oh wow.

I don't think I'll ever cease to be in complete awe of gestational surrogates. You rock.

I'm sorry that it feels strange and distant now, and that the parents haven't kept in touch. =(

If I'm ever lucky to meet my miracle baby(ies?), I don't think I could ever let myself "forget" my surrogate. The bond would be too profound.

  3. Our Miracle baby Girl was born at 9:06 am. Friends we once were but forever grateful we will ALWAYS be. Our family is one year old and we know we wouldn't have what we have without you. Everyone is healthy and Ava is standing, almost walking, talking saying words like dada, duck, hi, no, and yay!

So thanks for the Birthday wishes- there will not be a single July 22nd that we are not reminded of our journey to become parents and you will always be a part of that. We also hope your family is thriving and doing well.

Perhaps it does seem like some story from a book, I guess one that just has different perspectives, chapters and outcomes... so yes C'est la vie...

    All our best...JAM

  8. Returning your ICLW comment...

    Happy birthday little Ava!

Before I read the comments, I was guessing that the whole family thinks of you often but particularly on her birth day, also the birth day of their family. Wonderful to see that my guess was right.
